Nigerian authorities have finally released the comic and actor Babatunde Omidina after arresting him on suspicion of drug smuggling. He was detained at Lagos airport last month by officials from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency after a scan appeared to suggest he had ingested suspicious materials. They were forced to release him 24 after bowl movements failed to provide authorities with the evidence the crime had been committed and wow, did they try!
The Nigerian drug enforcement authorities spent three weeks examining Omidina's bowel movements for evidence of the contraband but found nothing and eventually dissuaded from keeping him longer by an increasingly nervous Nigerian Justice System.
In a final desparate effort to locate the alleged contraband, Omadina was subjected to 12 hours of "tests" at a Lagos hospital, apparently without consent. “All his systems were flushed, other than his lungs and intestines, but nothing was found,” his lawyer told a court last week.
Omadina reportedly told the judge, "When we got there, they inserted something in my mouth and pumped water inside. Another thing was inserted in my anus and water was also pumped inside. I then began to stool. I visited the toilet six times that day. Since then, I have been visiting the toilet frequently.”
The authorities made pleaded their case for further detention but this was rejected by the judge who released Omidina on bail.
You could not make this up! And when you are fed up with your job, just be grateful you are not the person whose job it is to collect and examine the samples to see if any drugs have been passed!
